Spring Newsletter 🌼
Royal Chapel, Bilbao, Lugo, Malaga, Lamenti di Donna, Sopra La Spagna, Suite d'un goût étranger…
We want to say hello to a spring filled with exciting projects. The most notable ones are the performances of our program Sopra La Spagna at the Madrid Royal Chapel, as part of the musical season of Patrimonio Nacional, as well as two new performances with soprano Jiayu Jin, with our acclaimed program Lamenti di Donna. We will also premiere a new program, Marin Marais's Suite d'un goût étranger.
However, before revealing our upcoming projects, we want to look back and recall some of the experiences we had last fall and winter.
💿 Abel: Between Two Words
Our recent album, devoted to Carl Friedrich Abel’s orchestral music and featuring soloists Jone Martínez, Alejandro Marías, Rafael Ruibérriz de Torres and Jordan Fumadó, has received attention from various magazines, such as Melómano (Recommended Album), Scherzo, Opus Klassiek, Entre dos luces (Album of the Week) or Codalario:
"La Spagna demonstrates its mastery in performing early repertoire, achieving a refined and authentic sound. The soloists stand out for their exceptional quality, engaging and precise in dialogue with the ensemble."
Platea Magazine published this interview with Alejandro Marías, regarding this album release.
The Diario de Sevilla also interviewed Alejandro Marías:
The program La Dársena on Radio Clásica, directed and presented by Jesús Trujillo, interviewed Alejandro Marías to talk about the recording process of this album. Link to the interview.
Finally, we had fun sharing a page with Richard Gere on ABC newspaper, thanks to a suggestive column entitled "Insisting on Beauty", which we could easily make our motto:
🎸 Boccherini & Haydn guitar quintets with Enrike Solinís
We owed our autumn debut to this first collaboration with guitarist Enrike Solinís, in which we performed quintets by Boccherini and Haydn on guitar and lute. There were two concerts, at the ADDA and at the Auditorio de la Fundación Mutua Madrileña, with a program we hope to return to soon.
🇨🇾 Sopra La Spagna
Our most international program was performed at the Semana de Música Antigua de Logroño and at the Pharos Arts Foundation, Cyprus. This concert was one of the musical highlights of the year, as reported by the Turkish-Cypriot newspaper Yenidüzen.
🎹 Recitals
During these months, Alejandro Marías and Jordan Fumadó gave several recitals. They performed their version of J.S. Bach's 3+1 viola da gamba sonatas at the Festival de Música Antigua de Palma and at the Ateneo Musical Mirandés. They also presented a program entitled "Spain on the Viola da Gamba" at the Palácio de Palhavã in Lisbon.
💫 Alejandro Marías
Aside from his work with La Spagna, Alejandro Marías has collaborated with other ensembles in recent months. This includes the Ínsula Orchestra, with whom he performed a program of music by C.P.E. Bach, Kraus, and Beethoven in Paris under the baton of Andrea Marcon. He also performed three concerts with El afecto ilustrado in Santiago de Compostela, Madrid, and Tenerife.
Finally, it is worth noting that, as a conductor, he presented a monographic program featuring music by Telemann at the Real Círculo de Labradores in Seville, conducting the Baroque Orchestra of the Conservatorio Superior de Música de Sevilla.
